Inappropriate Teacher-Student Relationships Eroding Parent-Teacher Trust

How does this keep happening? Last Monday (June 25), ABC's Good Morning America (along with every media outlet in the US) reported another case of a trusted teacher hitting on a student! This time it's a male teacher involved in an inappropriate relationship with a female student. What's happening to the parent/teacher trust factor? Let's be honestit's evaporating faster than you can say, "crazy teachers and sexual misconduct."

I mean, I know it's a youth worshiping country, but this is getting ridiculous. According to every TV and radio station in the US, long time track coach Brenton Wuchae first started paying special attention to his then 14 year old student, Windy Hagar, a few years ago. He started giving her special attention and rides home from practice, which progressed into heavy texting, and eventually into full blown "love". What was a gaw-gaw couple in love to do? Head to the altar and tie the knot, of course!

There was only one thing standing in their way - - the law. Without the consent of Windy's parents, ole Brent would have been committing statutory rape if he had tried to whisk his 16 year old love away and wed secretly. Parents can't control everything, but until daughters are 18, they hold some pretty potent cards. Being armed with this power, what parent wouldn't choose to employ this restraint and give their starry eyed teenager a chance to get her head on straight?

The Hagars apparently! For some mysterious reason, Windy's mom and dad actually signed a parental consent form, and their sweet 16-year-old daughter became the wife of this 40 year old man. Windy's father, Dennis, said they were exhausted, that they had to "move on" because "it was going to kill us all."

They obviously had reasons that are very personal. I don't know all the dynamics involved in this family, but I'll tell you thisI don't get it. I admit I am wrong to judge from a distance. Perhaps they were indulging parents who just never learned to dominate their own emotions so they could say, "no". But let's put parents aside for a minute.

What concerns me more is that these cases cases of teachers involved in inappropriate romantic (and let's be honest sexual) relationships with their underage students are not diminishing. What's being done by state legislatures and school boards to reverse (or at least mitigate) the situation? Why aren't prospective teachers given a battery of "personality" tests before being offered their first 12 month contract?

Heck, you can't even get a good sales job without being subjected to the 4-5 hour Myers-Briggs Test. New sales candidates are told to relax, be yourself and answer honestly. After all, There are no "wrong answers" they say. Yeah...RIGHT! Of course there are wrong answers! If this weren't so, they'd require you to take the test AFTER they hire you! But I understand companies are trying to weed out timid, overly sensitive souls from their candidate base. For sales positions, they want driven people with the killer instinct. And why not they want results!

Don't you think it's about time these genius "personality profiling" companies came up with some type of "test" to weed out new teachers who are a little off-balance before they begin their teaching careers?

When you need to get to a website, and you have the domain name - ie. The same as someone's name isn't their address. A website's address is called an IP address. The nameserver links the two.

I can see you asking "what the heck is an IP address?". IP address stands for Internet Protocol address. It is a unique address given to each individual website and computer that is linked to the internet. It is in the form of xx.xx.xxx.xxx or similar, where the xs are a number. So it is the internet equivalent of a physical address. Nameservers will direct you to the IP address, and, ultimately, the website, just like a phone book.

There are many nameservers on the internet, just as there are many phone books and directories out there. They are held by web hosting companies. Hosting companies are akin to real estate agents who let or sell their properties - in the cyber world. Host companies use their own servers, and in essence, hold the address information for any domain name hosted with them.

When you enter a domain name into your browser, you are asking the 'phone company' (web host) to look into their 'phone book' (nameservers) and tell you the (IP) address of that site, so you can be redirected there. Upon registration, they usually take a day or two to be set up, and can be changed at anytime.

You may decide to own your own server, in which case you will be given your own nameservers. You will need to add these to any domains you own. By doing this, you effectively are in control - albeit automated - of the redirection of domain name-to-web site queries. With nameservers, a lot is done behind the scenes. When learning Spanish, understanding verbs is one of the hardest spots that people may come across. Spanish verbs differ from English verbs in a variety of ways. For instance, many verbs in Spanish express distinctions in meanings, and includes tenses such as the subjunctive, which do not exist in other languages including English. Above all, Spanish verbs convey information regarding when the action took place, and who performed that action in a single word. For example, in English, the subject is always specified before the verb, like I write; while in Spanish, the single word Escribo (write) contains all the information regarding the subject.

The infinitive of a verb in English is formed by adding the word to, like in to do, to be etc. The infinitive of a verb in Spanish, on the other hand, is indicated by AR, -ER, and IR, such as in Estudiar (to study), Escriber (to write), and Comer (to eat). Each type of Spanish verbs has a different group of endings Yo; T; Ud., l, ella; Nosotros; Vosotros; and Uds., ellos, ellas. For example, the verb escribir (to write) may be ended with a o, es, e, emos, is, and en, like in escribo, escribimos.

Any type of verb conjugation needs the stem, which usually remains constant, to be identified first. In Spanish, the stem is formed by removing the AR, -ER, and IR and taking the infinitive of the verb. For example, the stem for the verb Escriber becomes Escrib. So, in order to conjugate the verb, the stem Escrib is used to say Escribo (I write), escribes (you write), Escribos (we write), and so on.

Note that many Spanish verbs are stem changing in every form except nosotros/as and vosotros/as. The three common types of stem changing verbs include e to ie, e to i, and o to ue. For example, in e to ie, Comenzar (to begin) would be conjugated into comienzo, comienzas, and so on. Therefore, I start the game would be said comienzo el juego, and we start the game as, nosotros comenzamos el juego. There are also a few other rare stem changes besides the one mentioned above.

Certain verbs, such as tener and venire, may also follow irregular verb ending patterns. So, in normal rules, the yo form of tener would be teno, but it is not. Instead it becomes tengo, tienes ten-is, and so on.

In Spanish, when two verbs are used in reference to one subject in a single sentence, the second verb is usually written in the infinitive form. For example, Espero trabajar pronto (I hope to work soon). To say a sentence in the negative in Spanish is easy. All you need to do is add the word no right before the conjugated verb, as in No Espero trabajar pronto (I do not hope to work soon).

Cruise Travel For Physical Fitness Or A Spa Vacation

You really want to take a cruise but you also really want to go to a spa for physical fitness and maybe a little pampering. In the world today you can do both. Years ago you were lucky to find a spa on a cruise ship. If there was one, it was in a really remote area of the ship. As for physical fitness there was very little equipment and most of it was tired. When people started to become more conscious of their looks and health the cruise lines revised their way of thinking. Cruise travel now can double as a spa vacation as well as learning a new physical fitness program.

The newer cruise ships have gone to great lengths to accommodate the cruise passenger who also wants to beautify and tone up. The cruise lines have installed state of the art equipment, added numerous exercise classes, and offer the newest beauty treatments available. Many of the cruise lines have relocated their fitness centers to the top decks of the ships with lots of windows so you can have a view while you are on the treadmill, bike, or lifting weights. Tucked up into the corner is a big TV so you can watch the news from back home. The cruise ships now have three distinct areas, one for fitness, one for spa treatments and one for the beauty salon.

As mentioned, the fitness centers on cruise ships are now a thing to behold. They all will definitely have treadmills, Stairmasters, free weights rowing machines and bikes. Some cruise lines even have complete Nautilus machines. Popular exercise machines, especially on sea days, may require you to sign up for a particular time of day and will limit the amount of time you can use the machine.

If you want to use your cruise travel as a vehicle to start an exercise regime there are physical trainers onboard. Their services, however, will cost you extra. The trainer will ask you lots of questions about your health and diet and then will come up with a personal regime for you. He or she will then book times through the week for you to work together.

All cruise lines offer exercise classes, yoga, aerobics, dance, water aerobics, even Pilates and kickboxing. Some of these may require a slight fee. To find out when these classes are held consult your daily bulletin for times and fees, if any.

Now, you're thinking why would I start a physical fitness regime while on a cruise ship, especially since they serve all that food, 24 hours a day? Well along with the newer, shinier and better facilities the cruise lines have also instituted what they call spa cuisine. Everyday they will offer a "lighter side" menu if you are really serious about you new physical fitness regime.

Don't assume that if the ship is older, it won't have a decent fitness and spa area. Check with your cruise travel agent to find out what facilities are onboard the cruise ship you have chosen. For instance, the QE2 is an older ship but it has a beautifully outfitted spa with a large staff. Celebrity's slight older Century has a Thalassotherapy pool for their passenger's enjoyment and it has become quite popular among their cruisers.

When you board your cruise ship go to the spa area. Usually on the first day the staff will be explaining their treatments and occasionally demonstrate how it is done. Sometimes they will raffle off treatments, so go to the demonstration just for that reason. If you have definitely decided that you will be doing some treatments, book them on day one to get the best times. Any beauty salon appointments should be made then too, hair appointments for formal night go very quickly.

Many times the spa and beauty staff will discount their services on days when the ship is in port. If you are going to a few cruise destinations that you have previously visited, take advantage of these offers. You will find that you can pick your time of day to get these treatments done with little or no competition. If you are an early riser, choose an appointment in the morning and then get off the ship to enjoy that port. Or, conversely, disembark early to explore your new port, and then return to the ship in the early afternoon to take advantage of a discounted treatment.

When you go to your spa appointment, do not wear jewelry or fancy clothes. Most treatments are a bit messy and you don't want to ruin any of your belongings. It is best just to wear a robe. When you get there an attendant will give you a towel and a private locker to put away your things. You may then be asked to wait in a room. Your technician will come out to take you to the room designated for that particular application. You will also fill out a form on your health and any surgeries that you have had. The room you are in will most likely have a shower. It will definitely have a sound system to play soothing music and there will be an array of exotic oils and creams.

The cruise ship spas have gotten quite creative. They now offer couples massages where you and your partner are in the same room with different massage therapists. Then there are four hand massages where two people work on you at the same time. Some of the cruise lines offer in suite massages and some even have massages on the deck.

By far the highest percentage of staff are women but there a few men. If you have a preference between male or female spa technicians, state it when you make your appointment. Some people are uncomfortable lying naked on a table with a therapist of the opposite sex. Check the cruise ships policy on tipping. Some cruise lines automatically tack on a 15% charge to your bill while on others you may have to pay in cash. To save embarrassment, check at the time you make your appointments.

There are three lines that allow you to make your spa appoints before boarding the ship. Princess, Windstar and Celebrity all offer this option. In some cases they even have packages that you can book in advance. Be careful here though, they may give you some very early morning appointments which means you have to go and change them on the very first day. This is not the best policy since they should be giving you prime appointments for booking ahead.

Beauty salons will offer a full array of services. You can have your nails done, your hair colored or hand and foot treatments aside from just a trim. Most of the beauty salons have Europeans staffs. That is not necessarily a bad thing. Places like Austria require their beauty students to go to the equivalent of our college.

See, it is possible to turn your cruise into a spa vacation or physical fitness week. Just follow what your trainer or your beauty technicians tell you and eat the spa cuisine. You've just achieved three goals, a little bit of pampering, a fitness regime, and a light and healthy diet. This may be a new way for you to view cruise travel.

Lets be honest. It is getting harder and harder to make a decent profit from our retail customers. The internet abounds with articles such as etc. Our customers are coming in and telling us how much over invoice they are willing to pay. So how can we maximize their profit potential

1. Build value

A Purdue University study showed that when the customers perceived value exceeds the price, meaning that customers felt that they were getting more than they were paying for, eight of ten would buy. So where do we build value. Look to build value in each of the three psProduct, Place and Person.

PRODUCT

Know your product inside and out. Find the interesting details that customers might not be aware of. When doing your walk around dont just spout off features. Make sure you tie features to your customers hot buttons. Use the phrase (or something like this) and what that means to you is. It is best to talk about an average of 3 features per walkaround position . It may seem like more is better, but studies show that customers tend to get overloaded and can have a negative reaction to too many features. Spend at least 15 minutes a day on a Powerbreak, learning something new about your product, read owners manuals and articles about your product, walk the used car lot, talk to a mentor in your dealership. Do what it takes to be an expert.

PLACE

Then ask yourself what sets my dealership apart? Have we been in business for 40 years, are we a family business, are we a no hassle dealership,do we have more inventory than our competitors? How are we distinct. Once you have answered that question make sure your customers know it. Does your dealership have a mission statement? Do you know what it is? Talk about the goals of your dealership with pride.

PERSONAL

But the most important place to build value is doing business with you. First of all it is the only thing that you have to offer that they cant get anywhere else. Your willingness to go the extra mile, be patient, be well informed, help a customer buy a vehicle, rather than sell them will go a long way towards setting you apart from your competitors. The world is changing fast, make sure you are aware of new technology that will help you stay connected to your customers.

Check your bad attitude at the door. Your customer is making an impression of you in the first 90 seconds that they are spending with you. Your smile, eye contact, warm handshake and enthusiastic greeting will prove to them that you are someone that they want to do business with., over and over again

2. Follow-up This is the place most sales consultants fall down. We are so busy dealing with ups that we forget that our best and easiest customers are the ones that have already bought from us. Get a customer contact program such as ACT or and use it. Call your customers within 24 hours after the purchase to make sure if everything is ok. If not move heaven and earth to fix the problem. Write a handwritten thank you note Then check in (with their permission) via a phone call, email or newsletter at regular intervals. Make the contact personal. Use the information you learned when you were building rapport to continue that process. Ask how Johnny did in little league. Congratulate them on Beckys graduation. The more personal the conversation, the more effective it will be. There are sales consulatants who make their clients service appointments. The goal is to add value and have your name be on the tip of their tongues. And be assured that they come back to you when they buy their next vehicle.

3. Ask for referrals Your happy customers are your best salespeople. Let their great experience be a story that they tell over and over. And if you have done an exceptional job dont hesitate to ask them to recommend you to their friends, co-workers and family. If you explain that you build your business by positive word of mouth they most likely will be happy to help you out. Dont forget to thank them for their referrals. Again, a hand written note is essential. Some states allow bird dogging. IF yours doesnt you could thank them in a variety of other ways. A dinner at a local restaurant, or free oil change will tell them that you are grateful.

Following these simple steps will allow you to maximize the profit you can get from your customers. Remember it makes better sense to work smarter, not harder.

The Journey From USB 1.1 To USB 2.0

The Universal Serial Bus (USB) was first launched in 1996 by a group of IT Companies known as the USB Promoter Group.

This first version was known as USB 1.1 and was a standardized serial connection that aimed to provide a replacement for parallel and serial ports. Intended for mid-speed and slow computer peripherals, it created an intelligent serial bus.

In the early years, many people utilized USB on their own computers and it proved to work well for most applications. In recent years, however, USB 1.1 has proved to be too limited. While USB 1.1 managed to remain useful to more modern technologies, some loopholes in the initial version were pointed as the source of major problems.

USB 1.1 was limited with a slower transference rate of only 12-megabits/ sec. During the rise of the USB 1.1 in the market, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) unveiled the FireWire, also called i.LINK(tm), which had a transfer speed of 400 blazing megabytes per second, then considered a fantastic rate of transfer. This transfer speed made the uploading of a full motion video from a camcorder convenient. It threatened to push USB 1.1 out of the market, as it was not able to compete with this newcomer.

The creation of increasingly sophisticated gadgets and peripherals spotlighted the limitations of the original version of USB. USB 1.1 was not able to fully support the speeds needed to run gadgets like digital movie or video players, mobile phones, video phones, Web cameras, digital cameras, MP3s or digital music players, PDAs and Palmtops.

When USB 2.0 version debuted, with 40 times the speed of the previous version, it offered the capacity to operate most of the newly released technologies.

One of the most important features of USB 2.0 is that it is backward compatible. In other words, USB 2.0 hardware can be plugged to computer's old USB 1.1 port and will function properly because both versions use same plug. USB 2.0 can transmit data at speeds between 1.5 megabits to 480 megabits per second, but if USB 2.0 hardware is connected to a USB 1.1 port it will not attempt to transmit data at its maximum speed of 480 megabits per second. Rather, it will slow it's rate of transmission in order to operate properly and compatibly with the older hardware.

Upgrading a computer to include USB 2.0 ports into a computer is a simple procedure. When USB 2.0 ports are added with a PCI port card, the original USB 1.1 ports are retained and will continue to function normally.

Both USB 2.0 and 1.1 are plug and play. Once a USB device is connected to the host computer, the system will automatically recognizes it. The drivers will then be installed and the system can begin operating the new hardware without the necessity of a reboot. The upgraded technology of USB 2.0 also allows the connection capacity of a single computer to a very large number of devices at once: 127 to be exact.

Both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 have become vital instruments in connecting devices and computers together. If things continue as they have begun, USB will become even faster and more efficient in years to come.
